The Asia Society India Centre: In Conversation with Inakshi Sobti
Recorded on April 4 2022.
The Asia Society India Centre is one of many international sister sites that originated from the U.S.A. model. Inaugurated in 2006 by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and positioned in a network of non-profit organisations, the India Centre’s initiatives include fostering a nuanced understanding of Asia-Pacific affairs by conducting education programmes geared towards community-building in the subcontinent and among the diaspora. Intending to engage new audiences with their work, the Society’s work in the arts sector includes encouraging contemporary Asian artists and vernacular artistic programmes, conducting fundraising events, and using the virtual platform offered by two years of intermittent lockdowns to reach out to a global audience of arts enthusiasts and professionals.
Najrin Islam speaks to Inakshi Sobti, the Chief Executive Officer of Asia Society India Centre, about the annual marquee convening of the Asia Society namely the Asia Arts Game Changer Awards 2022, which were awarded to artists Himmat Shah, Sumakshi Singh and Jasmine Nilani-Joseph.
